The waiting

I had mentioned previously how my hubby was cramping yesterday. After talking to his sister (a nurse practitioner), we called my hubby’s parents to watch our son. Once they arrived & our son was preparing for bed with Grandma, my hubby, his Dad & I headed over to the ER as recommended. After a three hour wait, I guess many people without insurance & without a doctor use the ER to treat common ailments such as a sore thumb. This slows it down significantly! After waiting in the lobby for three hours, my husband was admitted to the ER. A while later, the ER doctor came in explaining the tests they were going to run. Shortly after the tests, he returned with the test results as we suspected… early appendicitis! So while my hubby was admitted & assigned a room, his Dad & I headed home. His dad stayed overnight at our house so I could return to the hospital before my hubby’s surgery at 5:30 am. Meanwhile his mother went home to get some much needed sleep before back to our house to help with our son again.

So there I was… driving home from the hospital at 3 am. I was nervous about my hubby’s upcoming surgery & baby #2 was moving a lot. As a result, I never got any sleep before I got dressed to return to my hubby’s bedside (before he woke up). When the doctor came into the room at 6 am, he was very nice & clear on his expectations during & after surgery. Then he was off to the operating room while I tried not to cry & waited in the family waiting area. There at 7 am I was sitting there & falling asleep sitting up with jumpy nerves.

The doctor told me that my hubby may be able to go home today but we would like him to stay overnight tonight so he gets as much rest as hospital before recovering around a three-year old. It’s important that he doesn’t rush recovery. My in-law’s watched him all last night & today until dinner time so I could keep him company & help him out. Then they brought our son for a short visit with Daddy & then I took our son back home. They were wonderful.

My youngest sister visited at lunchtime. We had a nice talk at lunch at the dining room where the manager was so nice to help satisfy my craving for celery & ranch dressing. My folks are coming out tonight to visit him & then watch our son so I can keep him company more. Then my hubby’s sister may also visit tonight. If you want to send him a message at the hospital, click here. He'd love that. Thanks everyone for their support!

I’ll be glad when this is all over & my hubby’s back to being healthy again. I worry about him so.
